A note from District International Service Chair…

Fellow Rotarians,

It’s that time of the month (February) again that we celebrate World Understanding Peace Day (WUPD). On 23rd February, Rotarians all over the world will celebrate the 111st anniversary of the first Rotary club meeting. Across our district we will hold events, hosting fundraising and promote awareness about what Rotary does.

On behalf of DG Phillip, we urge you to support your local events i.e WUPD in Singapore on 23rd February and International Night in Kota Kinabalu on 27th February. The district will also flag off the End Polio Bike Ride to raise funds to eradicate that last 1% from the face of this earth. Get in touch with your local coordinators and join the fun ride together with your family and friends.

Do read this month’s publication of Rotarian Magazine. A lot of great articles especially on peace resolutions in conflict areas and be amazed how Rotarians helped to ease the sufferings and bring peace to the table.

To those Rotarians who are interested in this subject matter, do apply for Rotary Peace Fellowship Program and become one of many peace scholars around the world promoting and finding solution to help communities. There are 6 Rotary Peace Centers in the World and the nearest is Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. You can get more information in My Rotary. At the same time you can also look at the Ambassadorial Scholarship.

Our District Conference in Chiangmai and RI Convention in Seoul is just around the corner. Do plan early to join us and celebrate your personal and club achievement in becoming a ‘Gift to the World’.

This month is a reflection for us Rotarians to embrace differences while learning about other’s work. Cherish the friendship even though there are differences in opinion and language. Rotarians stand above all these because we understand what brings people or groups together and what drives them apart. Something we need to be aware off is what’s happening around the world but more importantly amongst our local community and especially within our clubs.

So join our District Trainer/Incoming Governor Micheal Yee to participate in the coming Pre Pets Program at local regions; Pets/Sets and District Training Assembly to learn more on how you can lead ‘Rotary Serving Humanity’.

God bless,
Halim Egoh
RC Luyang.
